Very approx there are railway stations at Mt Colah (40km ?), Mt Kuring gai (45km ?), Berowra (50km). Plenty of places. All those also have shops as well.

Colin, Probably be more like 700 - 800. I think they are 150ml each. a box each 8km should do it.

I will be very slow if I have to carry the bags and everyone will have to run back to me to get them     :D    .

Colin I was going to ring you this weekend to see if you picked them up.  Then I was going to get a better handle on who would be out on the course and drop some water bags to them next week.

Just had another rethink on Virtual's numbers. Even 15 runners taking two per 5km (600ml/hr) will only require 550.

Another issue--there will be NO official water provider putting out the water--it is Fat Arse after all   :)
People will either be running themselves or have their own seconds, so you will have to carry your own provision or give them to your second.

Plu, if you put (hide) any on the course the runners will need clear directions otherwise it will be a waste of time (and sachets).
As it is most will be more concerned about staying on track.

Magnus, no way but I will hope to incorporate a long training run into part of it (30+km).

cheers  :)

If it is OK, and assuming both my legs are in good workig order after this weekend's Soft Sand run, I plan to do the first 30k's to Bobbin Head picnic area. I am looking forward to meeting some of the who's who of coolrunning! BTW, you don't have to have posted > 1000 posts on CR to run do you?     ;)

P.S. Does anyone know if there is mobile coverage at Bobbin head picnic area?

The mobile coverage at Bobbin Head is very poor.  The last few times I have been there I haven't been able to get any reception (with Optus).  I suggest that you try calling at the gates before entering Bobbin Head.  It is ~4kms down the road so if you are getting somebody to meet you there this will give them time to get there.

Hermie,
Sounds major but should be a simple fix. Still have thoughts of a run/walk at the Gold Coast marathon but that seems like a foolish plan for the long term recovery. GNW will be no problem neither will Glasshouse. Hope to catch up withyou later in the year.

I might add the other half of 'Team Dog' has a slight problem but like we have both said better now than later in the year. We are looking at it as a good recharge of the body time.   B)

Hi all,

As you come along Bobbin Head Road to the National Park Entrance there are shops in Turramurra near 30km.

Then coming out of Bobbin Head straight ahead after crossing the railway line and entering the Old Pacific Highway there is a shop  where last year I saw Jan having an iced coffee and iced tea before continuing on south. This is almost 40km.

After this shops at Mt K, Berowra, Cowan 50km, Pie in Sky 55km, Mooney Mooney 60km and finally Mt White 70km then 26 km on your own.

I have two people to provide waterbags on the course and one other after a training run with you.  Anyone else who would like me to drop off some bags for next week?  I am going to carry the bags instead of a bottle.

cheers  Plu

I'll be leaving a car in Gosford on friday night. I can give a lift back to Syd on Sat night if you promise to keep me awake. Looks like I'm on the 22:20 QF from Syd to Melb on Saturday night.

Looking forward to the training.

edit: I'm going to try and do it with one bottle. Will I make the last 26km or should I carry two?

so with less then a week to go I hear on the grapevine there are a few niggles going around that may have changed people's plans.

How is everyone traveling for this one?

Plus who is doing secret training or gotten coaches leading up to it?

Unfortunately I am out - I pulled a groin muscle and can't do more than about 5km. However I will be at the start and will be on the early part of the course with some aid and a camera.

(Plu - thanks for the waterbags - will have those also).

Good luck to everyone running.  Count me out this life and probably the next few re-incarnations too.

The elevation profile looks a bit scary.  It shows you all dropping to about 60 metres below sea level shortly after the start.  I hope you all make it!

I am out too.  Must be an epidemic of groins on the northside.

More detail on the blog when I can find it

I'll do what I do best  :)  I will be on the course at Turramurra way in the morning and head out  Mt White way in the arvo with waterbags and goodies as well.

I'll be at the Opera House at 7. I've been looking forward to this all year. The left knee is misbehaving slightly but I would not consider not starting.

To those experienced PMCers, how well lit is the last 20km as I imagine that we will be running this section in the dark. Do you need headlamps?

Hi all,

In relation to your question Tim.

Yeh I will have the bike on the roof of the car and a backpack.  In the morning I might ride towards you all from My Colah.  I am expecting runners at Turramurra from 10:00am.  I can hang around with you through the park.

Then I will let you do the Pacific Highway yourselves while I have rugby duty with Nick.  Then I plan to drive up to Mt White (or maybe further depending on the time) and ride back towards  you (plural) and and back with you for the arvo session.

quote:

Horrie,

I have not been there at night but there are no lights from Mt White to Kariong and some bends with fast cars. Don't know the moon situation.  I was planning on a light.

I don't think there are any street lights for a bit but the last 8km or so is pretty good.  You could do it without a torch but on the up run 2 years ago i had one.  It was a little LED that also had a flash setting so I could use it to make myself visable to cars.  there aren't many cars out there and you can hear them coming from miles away but I like to be safe.

Horrie, from memory the last section into Gosford along Debenham Rd would be best run with a light. I ran it 2 years ago with Mister G and was thankful he had a headlamp. There are/was a few potholes along this section and it's pretty dark too. A small handheld would suffice.

Yep, pretty dark for a while there, take a small light.

Looks like I won't be running the full distance, if I show. Probably 60Kish instead, that's a decent training run.

Hi all,

I had a request for the Excel spreadsheet of pacing times .  You can access it here, if you want to manipulate it.

Also I think I will leave my white Corolla  USE... (EDIT: or a blue hatchback Corolla AOA...i) n the morning on the Mt Colah side of the Bobbin Head Park exit about 37km.  It will be somewhere on the side of the road with a card table , a couple of chairs an esky and some containers of goodies.  Don't be shy even if I don't know you ( or if I am not there) - take what you need.  I will either be there or on the bike with runners

I will have to pull up stumps in this section at about 11:45am.  I will try find a similar spot in the orvo when I know when I can be there and where you all are.

I might also try and attach the spreadsheet  using the new system.  I don't know where it will turn up B)

cheers

In case the leader(s) get a shock late Saturday morning the runner/walker ahead of them will be me, and they will probably be closing on me fast.  Expecting about 13 hours I'll be starting before 7am.  Yes, I'll miss the start photo.    Ken

I'll be running from the Opera House to Gordon (18k?) - no pretence of attempting to be an ultra runner, just a chance to run with others as I slowly get back into it.
Looking forward to seeing you guys at 7am.

Very good chance that I'll be out there for the first bit - Opera house to Turramurra. Haven't run over 10km for two months, since the Two Oceans in mid-April, so that should be tiring enough.

Looking forward to it.

Cheers, Mike
