hi there Gold coast competitors !!!!!!

Are other running trying out the PB electrolyte drink during their training?  It is much more expensive that Gatorade (in tins) but is there any difference?  I would like to buy this product over Gatorade as PB is Australian but at double the price.....ummm...

has it given others tummy upsets??  I have used the PB gels and have no problems.

It was also the drink for the Melb. Marathon last year.  I didn't listen to advice and just tried it at the first drink stop and found it fine.  I kept going for that at each drink stop.

You can always use your own at the GC marathon - and drop it off the day before.

I trained with my own then just drank PB on the day at Melb.  It was fine.  If unsure then water it down on the day.  I have yet to taste one I cannot drink.

Your gels and food are more critical to get right in training.

Downunder runner, whilst I'm not running at Gold Coast, I have used PB before & am convinced it is a superior sports drink over Gatorade.
PB has higher sodium (145mg per 250ml compared to 102mg); higher potassium (45mg per 250ml compared to 29mg); and PB also contains magnesium & chloride which are important electrolytes to help prevent cramping. PB's main ingredient is maltodextrin, making it a less sweet tasting drink compared to the sucrose laden Gatorade. For me, this makes it esier to palate for sessions lasting several hours.
The price is a barrier, but do yourself a favour & buy a tin to use on your long runs leading up to the big event. You won't be disapointed & at least you'll have the confidence of knowing you've tried the product out in training before race day.
And before anyone asks - No I'm not sponsored by PB but I wish I was!  :D

Any takers on Deek's idea that electrolytic sports drinks are no help because the amount of moisture leaving your body means the salt etc inside becomes more concentrated anyway (de Castella on Running)?
He says a 2.5% glucose solution. What is that?

Thanks for this topic - I'd been planning to raise the subject myself. I'm training for the GC Marathon and will be taking no chances and buying a tin or two and will drink it exclusively when training for two weeks before the Marathon.

Good luck all!!
