ourimbar,
it's not often we agree, but I think that CR-NSW v CR-QLD v CR-ACT v CR-VIC etc would be a superb event! Name the place, date!

Hi,
I am originally from Japan and I really miss watching the annual university ekiden race. The race is so good and so popular that something like 33% of television viewer watch the students go up and down the mountain every year. The race is held on 2nd (up the mountain) and 3rd (down the mountain) of January. The race is televised for 6 hours each day.
As a matter of fact, I recently had dinner with my Japanese friends who live in Sydney and we said "wouldnt it be nice to have ekiden race in Australia!".
In this Japanese race mentioned above, I think the team is consist of 10 students and each run about half marathon distance.
The race is always packed with drama. Sometimes we see a freshman choke and have a really bad race and finish his run in tears but the same guy might come back the next year and take over several people. Keen funs look forward to this happening for whole year.
We have races in Australia that's team based but then they are 'concurrent' run not ekiden style or a long relay style.
It must be very difficult to manage but there are some ekiden fun runs in Japan.
As I am repeating 'Japan' many times, it might sound like I am boasting, but my intention is really to introduce this amazing race.
Anyway, just food for thought.
Ekien is great. It is by far the best running race on TV.
