Any chance of having another series of 5km challenges over summer? I'm thinking that the distributor of Loco shoes might be interested in showing the wares and perhaps donating a couple of pairs as prizes?

p.s i'll certainly be there for the bay run sessions - maybe we should add a challenge between areas eg lane cove V bay run lindfield V hornsby etc to culminate in a HUGE 5k extravaganza where all runners turn up in teams!!

I was actually thinking about posting to see if there was interest in getting the 'CR5km' runs going again over the warmer months around the Bay again.
From memory they use to be the last Saturday of the month at 7 for a 7:15am start near the rowing club opposite Brett Park. Any takers?

I'll be taking up regular spots at SMC now Striders 10ks have nearly finished, so be good to have something else to do each month.

no idea why the note about the person who suggested the original idea got dropped. no evil intent I am sure.
I can speak to pastyboy to see if he can rev the engine up again!
it would even be good to run at the bay again.

The Bay Run looks popular, but I also like freespiritfitness' suggestion about the inter-region challenge.
We had 6 runners for the SAN 5km muffin challenge last Friday and expect it to keep going on a weekly basis. If the other regions nominate a schedule so that visitors could lob in and take part and perhaps culminate with the 'Ultimate Challenge' to be held at the Bay say in Feb 2005?
Kevin was strangely quiet on the suggestion of the prizes?

I missed it, but was just curious exactly where it started and finished, so i can use it as a 5km training course. Thanks... I know it went up to King Edward Park, but then did it loop around and come back down to the Brewery??? Thanks guys.

Let's see if we can improve on the 17 starters than competed in the challenge back in January.

Put me down for the 27th , assuming my physio says I may go ahead and run. The whole thing sounds like alot of fun, and what better place to do it than "The Bay". Question though, do we do out and back or start at the rowers and go around to the hospital?
Also, Mrs Prof may be interested if there are some female runners involved - however due to babysitting issues, could we do some varying times, possibly even evenings? She may even join CR soon, rather than leaning on my back all night - which isn't so bad really...

I did the Race for Research at Newcastle a couple of weeks ago. It starts on the grass in front of the sheds at the Foreshore, and goes up into King Edward Park, along the road past the Rotunda, turning around about 100m before the first hairpin bend overlooking the ocean, and back the way you came.
BTW it is a great run if you've never done it.

I would definitely be interested in doing it as long as I'm now the only female and not the only person that will be running it around the 25 min mark <_<
Come on girls

Good thinking Steve!
Haven't raced over an accurate 5k for a couple of years so am keen to have a crack at breaking a very stale PB.

The Bay Run is around Iron Cove Bay in Sydney's Inner West. A full lap of the bay is just a whisker under 7km. For the 5km run we start at the 0km marker which is opposite Brett Park, (not too far from the Northern side of Iron Cove bridge), then run run anti-clockwise around the Bay and then along the side of the cannel, before recovering then slowly making our way back to the start. Seems as though Nov 27 is the popular choice, with a start of 7:15am.

I am sure that people entering are doing it for the fun and cameraderie and not prizes anyway !?
I will think about it some more.
We are thinking of counting runs from 1st November to 1st Feb.

I sensed there was a willingness from a few CR's to have a look at the new shoes and this would seem to be a good opportunity.
I agree; most if not all would be running this in the usual coolrunning spirit ie because they enjoy running not for the prizes. Given the mix of running abilities I would have thought if you were going to offer prizes they would be on a more random basis so that everyone has an equal opportunity.
BUT I don't think it's worth making a big deal out of it, I'll be there prizes or no prizes.
If anyone is interested there will be a 5km handicap run tomorrow morning at the SAN Wahroonga, 6.00ish start, and I'll provide watermelon post run (more refreshing than the muffins this time of year.) Do a few runs on this course and the Bay run will seem just that little bit easier in Feb.

26.2 -the 5k T Trial is a great idea but we are a highly professional outfit and as such will remain free from endorsing any product lest we be accused of conflict of interest.
although if a coupla free pairs were to land on our doorstep then we'd be better qualified to make a judgement?....
that was a JOKE by the way. :P

And Lil' Elf, while I certainly can't match Sparkie's credentials, as another Upper North Shore resident I would be happy to tie my colours to the Toffs mast for this one.

Will try and remember some chalk to record the times for the 7.15 train.
Did not run a single step for 9 days after a really nasty throat/chest virus post JP Morgan. However a dose of antibiotics(first time I have taken in 15 years) has finally given me a clean bill of health. So no real aspiritions, will see how I feel.

Meet at 7am outside Drummoyne Rowers for a spot of pre-event socialising, hit the road at 7:15.
Hoping for a time in the low 20's.
