It would be a shame for some people to miss out on Boof's contribution to the forums due to language barriers, so we have arranged for a translation service to be initiated.  Here are the first attempts:

quote:

well woppy dodarr for you coco pops.....Pittman way over rated for mine....she continues to talk the talk, but when are we gunner see her shut up & walk the walk.....sure she got lucky in the world champs, but all she has ever done sinse & all we have heard is a immature ramblings & attention seeking splash across the TV screen and she has got no one to blame but her self for portraying that image to the general public.....I hope she comes good meself but I'm not gunner get all warm & fuzzy and bar up over it....btw the plenty wankers were I work to for record

regards
Boof

Translation:
Your pleasure is possibly unwarranted.  I believe the hype surrounding Jana is excessive.  Her actions are not currently matching the standards of the accompanying promotion.  Her win at the world championships was aided by good fortune, but since then her achievements have been minimal, and the majority of coverage, particularly on television, has been focused on her statements and activities taking place outside the track.  Her problems appear to have been brought upon herself, and she should shoulder the majority of blame for her current predicament.  I wish her well for the upcoming Commonwealth games, but will limit my celebrations if she wins, and am unlikely to become aroused.  Incidentally, my workplace also contains a number of people who masturbate.

love your work Sparkie, I'm still deciding which version is funnier!

Still need the orginal BOOF versions though, or else they lose their 'flavour'!

Maybe BOOF could send his posts via you, and you could post them with said translations!   :)

MattieO, that link is very good. I particularly like this quote:

"Both spoken and written word recognition lend themselves to experimental investigation"

So true. Nice to see you back, Boof.

Next drinks Thursday 23rd.

FPT and MattieO(Kegs) will bring the kitchen utensils that Troopie promised Freerunner.

Standing room only   :D

Somehow don't think he'll turn up (to stand by the 'truth') though.

Hmm, wonder what MattieO wrote. Probably not far off the mark whatever it was.

Thanks to Colin for putting quote marks around the word 'truth'. I would suggest Boof's grip on the truth is similar to his grip on literate posts/english language.

When will Mister G release his book of Boof's pre moderated quotes?

Actually, for those that are yet to meet Boof personally (as opposed to "virtually"), he's a pretty good bloke, a bloody good runner and very happy to pass on his running-related thoughts and suggestions.
He also tends not to take himself too seriously-which is a pretty good trait for anybody.

That said, he does have an uncanny ability to stir-up passions on this site!

MattieO, if you are so keen to say hello to Boof, why don't you come for a run at the next Striders 10km. He's normally found on the 35 minute bus  ;)

As Langswm said, Boof travels OK. And he's always good for a stir.

Life would be very dull without Boof.

MattieO,

No I wasn't Gaybar, but did 'give it to Greenie' under my own name.

SteveL,

The spelling's not a problem , never is on forums, neither the 'code' , but the insults that are under the guise of 'truth'.
You can't excuse your insults behind an inability to use written english.

re the moderation of MattieO's post earlier, I felt his 'threat' was less serious than the original insult was, but then again I'm not a moderator am I.
edit: put it back MattieO, he won't hurt you  ;)

Colin, I was referring to the swipes at Rudolf's English, the Boof stuff is all good-natured banter and an issue I'm not meaning to enter. I was just surprised when the feeding frenzy resulted in bites being taken out of an innocent bystander. I could have been clearer about that, but it wouldn't have sounded as even-tempered.

I don't think anyone is having a go at Rudolf's command of the English language.  Even if he were as erudite as Colin or Sparkie I still wouldn't understand him.  It wasn't just the spelling that Sparkie cleared up...

Rudolf has a great sense of humour.

Like when I asked him if he had ever been an athletics official, manipulating teams and selections to make sure there were plenty of nice young girls on the trip, and maybe not many athletic looking males for him to compete with for the ladies attention.

His response to the question;

"I am taking the fifth amendment"

FPT: that's my point. People therefore need to make allowances...or are we saying the same thing?

Kato: erudite is actually a word I would apply to Rudolf. Articulate is what I would call Sparkie. Colin, though, is just a bad-tempered curmudgeon  :D  (Colin, you know I don't really mean that).

matt i o: Yes he has, and it is a good thing too. And I know he doesn't mind these kinds  of comments, but as someone who has to struggle using a second language every day, and greatly admire those who do it far more successfully, I do mind, and I have made it my mission in life to take offense on his behalf  ;) . Maybe I'm the one with the problem. Now, everybody, nothing else to see, move right along and go back to your boof bashing.

Boof!
As lngswm says, to know Boof outside of the virtual world is to know a different person.  I guess Boof suffers the Jana syndrome where the media combined with their own "style" of communication creates a perception amongst those that don't know them that is different to the peception of those that do know.

I like boof.  I am proud to call him a friend.  He is a good runner, great for a chat and a ribbing, has agreat sense of humour and is a generous soul.  OK, so he is the first Strider to be have a probationary membership     :)    , he is not particularly PC, and calls a spade a bloody shovel.  Subtlety is not a strong suit, and his country origins show through.

Onya Boof.  I often cringe when I read your posts, but knowing you outside of cyberspace I can usually see where you are coming from and have a good chuckle - or mutter "boof, boof, boof" to myself whilst shaking my head.  Keep on keeping on - we always have sparkles to translate!    :D

PS - I also must admit to giving Boof his handle.  It just fitted!    ;)

As much as I like Boof's non PC attitude and I don't really care about his command of language (well sometimes one needs an interpreter like Sparkie!), to be insulting when not provoked is a totally different thing.

Besides me and others not liking what he said (esp with him standing by it), more importantly both FPT and MattieO took offence to his comment, and I think his defenders should take that into account.

You can see where he is coming from regarding his unwarranted attack on myself, and for some reason even though he had nothing to do with the thread, his slander against MattieO as well?

I know that's not what you mean, but it seems strange that his personal attack on two people is being endorsed by people just because they know him outside the boards. According to the posting guidlines "Flaming or abusing in any way will not be tolerated - this applies to being disrespectful of individuals or groups of individuals. A good rule of thumb is that if you wouldn't have the nerve to say it in person, don't post it." If he such a great bloke off the site does that mean he wouldn't say those things to me in person?

Thanks to Colin for being able to see outside the cult of Boof.

I still have a niggle of conscience this morning about this thread, so here goes!

Way, way back I received a very late night email from a moderator admonishing me for  "bad form" in asking a question of another Cool Runner (about training) prefacing the question with his/her Cool Running name.  Reason for expurgating such unbridled language?  Using the CRs name excluded others from answering the question..... that  was considered "bad form"?   After reading some of the  name calling in this thread all I can say is....My, how times & standards have changed!   LL

Edit : I  think CRs have been addressed by their CR names both before & since!!   And FPT in response to your post below : I did understand the context & content of the email!       The only relevance of my post was to highlight what differences there can be between what might or might not be considered "good form"!   :)     LL

Obviously I can't speak for the moderator but I would have read his email a bit differently. Meaning that you may have gotten additional information from others but they now wouldn't answer your question because it was directed at a single poster. I could be completely wrong about this as I don't know the context in which it all took place.
