Too many Australian children are overweight, and state and federal governments have decided to spur them into activity. More sport in a nation where one in three primary school children is overweight can't be a bad thing, can it?
Well, for some of us whose kids are sporty, and devote far too many hours to training, playing, stretching, gearing up and winding down, the idea that more sport is to be foisted on us is intolerable.
The Federal Government will soon announce a grant, reportedly of $6 million, to the Australian Sports Commission, for after-school sports programs, and the State Government has announced it will increase physical activity at school by 25 per cent for 12- to 15-year-olds.
