Athletics NSW have today released the 2005-2006 Summer Competition Program. To view the program please visit the Competition or Calendar page on the Athletics NSW website - Also avaliable for download is the 2005-2006 Competition Fee Schedule, which outlines the entry fees and close of entries for all Athletics NSW competitions.


Nominations are due in shortly for athletes who wish to nominate for the ANSW Teams to compete at the National Cross Country and National Road Walks to be held in Adelaide on the 27th and 28th August 2005. ANSW will be sending teams in the U14, U16, U18, U20 and Open divisions To nominate to be part of the ANSW teams at these championships, athletes must nominate and be selected, to nominate please refer to page 13 of the ANSW winter handbook and email your nomination to:


The Telstra Australian Road Walking Championships and IGA Australian Junior Road Walking Championships will be held at Santos Stadium, Mile End, South Australia on Sunday 28th August 2005.

The events to be contested are as follows: Men Open - 30km
Men Under 20 - 20km
Men Under 18 - 8km
Men Under 16 - 5km
Men Under 14 - 3km

Women Open - 10km
Women Under 20 - 10km
Women Under 18 - 8km
Women Under 16 - 5km
Women Under 14 - 3km

Entries will close at Athletics NSW on Friday 5th August 2005. Late entries will be accepted up until Monday 22nd August, but will incur a late fee of double the normal entry fee.

An entry fee of $40 (includes administration fee) per athlete per event will apply. The late fee will be $55 (includes administration fee) per athlete per event.

Please use the generic ANSW entry form for all entries, the entry form is available from the Competition Page on the Athletics NSW website

For the Telstra Australian Road Walking Championships & IGA Australian Junior Road Walking Championships in 2005, teams and individual championships will be contested. Please note that a minimum of three States must enter a team in order for the team championship to be conducted. 3

All other competitors can be entered as additional competitors (AC) and there are no qualifying standards. There is no restriction on the numbers of additional competitors that any association can enter.

Age Groupings - please carefully note that for each Australian Championship, the age of the competitor is determined as at 31st December 2005. That is in all events, all athletes must be under the relevant age on 31st December 2005.


Blackmores Sydney Running Festival (BSRF) are seeking enthusiastic Athletic Clubs & Organisations from NSW and specifically within Sydney, to take part in the Volunteering Crew component of the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival event to be held Sunday 11th September 2005. As an incentive to participate, by appointing a key coordinator to represent your Club, we seek to donate to your group, a minimum of $200 for 10 persons ($20 per person) that are willing to support their group by Volunteering at this event. Volunteer Event Roles Include: Supervisory, Team leader or General Volunteer opportunities as well as Pre-Event work will be required.


We are seeking up to 300 interested persons from various Athletics Clubs & Organisations to form a Volunteer Team to invest their time and athletics expertise by participating in this incentive program. The incentive program is a great way to get involved by supporting your local athletics club and in raising funds, plus it's a great day out too! All volunteers will each receive an event day t-shirt, cap, certificate of appreciation and be in the draw for various sponsor prizes! If you know of a friend or relative that is participating in this event already, why not get involved and cheer them on! So why not get on board, support your Group by forming a Volunteer Team!


If your Group is interested, please nominate a key-coordinator from your club that will be directly liaising with the Volunteer Manager for this event. All information will be distributed from the Volunteer Manager to the nominated coordinator from each interested Athletic Club.

Athletics Australia is keen for all athletes (and their coaches) who believe they are a chance to be selected for the 2006 Commonwealth Games to have a clear understanding of the Selection Criteria.Max Binnington, AA National Performance Director, will be in SYDNEY on Monday 18th July to talk you through the selection process. You will have the opportunity to gain a clear understanding of what you need to do to be selected. Max will be pleased to answer your questions in relation to the criteria and selection process.

LOCATION: VIP Room 1, Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre (Homebush). Entry is via NSWIS offices.

Thank you to all the clubs who attended the Athletics NSW AGM held on Wednesday 6th July. Please find a brief summary below:

- As only four (4) board nominations were received by Athletics NSW, all four (4) nominees were automatically appointed to the board (Peter Bromley, Betty Moore, Phil O'Hara and Michael O'Mara)

- Four (4) Life Members were elected (Robert Ryan, Rosemary Owens, Vilis Gravitis and Stephen Hampstead

- Carol Hall received a Service Merit Award.

Athletics NSW will send an Annual Report to all clubs who were not present at the Annual General Meeting.


All clubs must return their Club Information Request for the 2005-2006 Summer Handbook AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. If this information is not received by Athletics NSW, it can not be published in the handbook.


A reminder to all clubs to return their Model Club Policy - Club Position Statement by FRIDAY 31ST JULY 2005. Your feedback is an important part of the Athletics NSW Model Club Policy.

Our official winter competition (West Metropolitan) is going well with good numbers turning up. Newcomers are always welcome. We encourage runners of all standards, ages, shapes and sizes. Registrations for this season are still open. We also conduct training at C.V. Kelly Park, Oramzi Road, Girraween on Monday & Wednesday nights (6.30-8.00pm). Our very successful Steeplechase training on Tuesday nights at Homebush resumes on Tuesday, 16th August at 6.30pm and will continue each Tuesday until mid March 2006. All prospective steeplechasers welcome.

The Australian Institute of Mathematics NSW All Schools Track and Field Championships will be held from Thursday 22nd - Sunday 25th September 2005 at Sydney Olympic Pack Athletics Centre. The 2005 NSW All Schools Championships also incorporates the 2005 Pacific School Games Trials.

Entry forms are now available from the Athletics NSW website - To Enter, simply download the entry form from the Athletics NSW website [], then complete and return ONLY the "Official Entry Form".
