A brilliant event, not to be missed if you are clocking up the marathons or an Ultra runner who wants to give a staged-race a go. This event is not for the faint-hearted! And if you don't like a challenge or hills, don't bother. The event is run in three stages, each 42.2km, run over three consecutive days. Sun 30 Jun CAREFLIGHT WOODFORD TO GLENBROOK CLASSIC 2013 (NSW)
This year's CareFlight Woodford to Glenbrook Classic will attract over 1000 entrants to run or ride the Oaks Fire Trail through the beautiful Blue Mountains National Park from the town of Woodford down to the Euroka Clearing near Glenbrook. Covering 25km of undulating bushland, the trail is incredibly scenic and a must for keen mountain bikers and trail runners. Participants are supported the full length of the track by Rural Fire Service crews stationed along the way, providing First Aid and drinks. A CareFlight doctor and St John Ambulance volunteers will also be in support. The event will finish with a community fair-style reception in the beautiful Euroka Clearing. Families are welcome to join in the fun with activities for the kids, food stalls and displays throughout the day. Mountain bike riders start from 9am and runners start from 10am. Exact start times and transport and parking details will be advised closer to the event. Registration is just $45 for adults and $20 for juniors, which only covers the cost of conducting the event. Money raised by entrants through donations and fundraising activities helps to fund the services of CareFlight. Each entrant is asked to assist with this. Teams and individuals are welcome to enter. The third of four races in the FNQ Trail Running series this looped race follows a fairly well constructed forestry road that meanders to create probably the best rainforest circuit in the north, according to Paul Curtis’ book “The Travellers’ Guide to North Queensland Cairns and Surrounds”. Just one week after the City2Surf, August 17-18th 2013 is the date set for the unique Wiradjuri walking Track, Wagga Wagga Trail Marathon Running Weekend. Saturday 17th August will be the 5 km fun run and Sunday August 18th will be the cross-country trail marathon that is 95% off-road. On the day will be a marathon relay, a half marathon and a 10km run, something for all the family. Wagga Wagga Road Runners (WWRR) hosted the 5th Wagga Wagga Trail Marathon in 2012 with a big increase in runner numbers. Most runners say that running trails are so much more interesting then running around hard road. The scenic Yurrebilla Trail runs for 56 km through the rugged western escarpment of the Adelaide Hills. It ascends 1865 m and descends 2060m, and is over 600m at its highest point. At no point is it more than 18km from the centre of Adelaide; yet most of it runs through native woodland which varies constantly along the route. The Great North Walk is a 250 km walking track that runs along the coastal strip between Sydney and Newcastle in New South Wales. It was opened in the Australian Bicentennial year of 1988 and passes through some of Australia's most outstanding scenery. Both races start at Teralba on Lake Macquarie and head south. The 100km race finishes at Yarramalong in the scenic Yarramalong Valley and the 100 Mile at Patonga on spectacular Broken Bay. Although the route is primarily on foot tracks and fire-trails, it does include some minor back roads. Run From The Hills is a trail running experience like no other. Set in the beautiful surroundings of the Pyrenees Range State Park near Avoca, Victoria with the event village set up at the Mt Avoca Winery. Competitors looking for a challenge take on the 21.5k run - buses transport the runners up in to the heart of the forest where they make a mass participation start through single track, fire roads and finally the grape vines to the finish. Alternatively choose the 7.5k "Round the Vineyard" course. This route takes you on fire roads, singletrack and through the grape vines to the finish at the stunning Mt Avoca Winery. Once the runners have returned from the 7.5k and the 21.5k a juniors fun run takes which takes children under 15 on a short 2k loop. Parents are welcome to support along the way - 2012 saw the youngest competitor at the age of just 3! Our sensational fun run is a bitumen course, either 21.5km or 10km long and just over 1,270 metres in elevation. The course starts 21.5km (or 10km) down from the top of Mt Buller (clock tower) and runners will run up Mt.Buller Road all the way to the top finishing in the Mt Buller Square. The road is closed completely and the atmosphere is breathtaking. Our race is physically challenging and scenically stunning. The atmosphere is fantastic - along the way you will be entertained at all of the 6 drink stations along with a huge finishing area of festivities where both running events end. Sponsored by Powerbar, there is water, electrolites, Powerbars & some gels complimentary at each drink station (there are not many runs that offer free gels to participants!)
