Overseas National Teams Starting 2000 Bookings
17 May 1998More than 10 overseas Olympic teams have signed up to train in Australia.
Teams from Europe, Asia and the USA have booked venues from Penrith to Scone to help acclimatise their teams. Overseas bookings to date are evenly spread between the city and the country.
Sydney Harour will be used in the lead up to the Games by British, New Zealand, American, Swedish, Portugese and Italian sailing teams. The German and Italian rowing teams will be based at Penrith, west of Sydney and the Portugese athletic team will be based at Bankstown.
The Swiss and US rowing teams have booked into Maclean on the far north NSW coast. Lochinvar, in the Hunter Valley, will play host to the Thai, Swaziland and Korean equestrian teams, and Scone to the American.
The Belgian athletics team will be based at Narrabeen and the Irish team at Wollongong. The Ukranian team will train in Albury-Wodonga.
