Nova Peris first to carry torch
20 August 1998Olympic gold medalist, Nova Peris-Kneebone, will be the first person in Australia to carry the Olympic torch in 2000. The announcement was made this afternoon by the Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games. Ms Kneebone says it has an honour to be chosen and she is looking forward to the experience. "I was just thrilled," Ms Kneebone said. "You know it's a honour and it's given me a big energy boost for the next few years, and I'm really looking forward to it. "I'm just going to be one hell of a proud Australian."
