The race, now in its fifth year, is run around a 3.3km loop taking in Hobart's historic Battery Point and Sullivan's Cove. The race is used as a major fund raiser for the Children's Ward of the Royal Hobart Hospital, the Menzies Centre for Cancer Research and the Cancer Council of Tasmania. The race has grown from 450 competitors in its first year to 1100 last year. Each year and interstate male and female athlete are invited to compete, with the last three male athletes representing Australia in international events. These athletes are Sean Quilty, Rod de Highden and Lee Troop. The elite female athletes who have competed in the past are Lisa Dick, Clare Fearnley, Kylie Risk and Mary Ann Murray.
