Adelaide Trailwalker 1999
Thank you for your interest in the inaugural 1999 Adelaide Trailwalker, an exciting and challenging 48 hour cross-country endurance event. October 29, 30 & 31 will see 100 teams of 4 people come together to walk or run 100kms through some of Adelaide’s most spectacular countryside along The Heysen Trail.
You will join local, national and international walking and sporting enthusiasts who will be truly put to the test to meet the challenge of Adelaide Trailwalker in fitness, motivation, team-building and cooperation, commitment, and courage.
With its origins as a military training exercise in Hong Kong, Trailwalker has grown to become one of the worlds premier endurance and team building fundraising events, annually raising HK$10 million for Oxfam Hong Kong. It has since expanded to the UK, and was first held in Australia (in Sydney) in May 1999. The Adelaide Trailwalker will be the second event of its type to be held in Australia and already 20% of available places have been reserved.
Registrations for the Adelaide Trailwalker open Monday 19 July 1999. You need to form your Trailwalker team and complete the enclosed registration form. We urge you to register early to ensure successful entry. If you want to participate but can’t get a team together, give us a call - we may be able to help.
As entry to the event your team commits to raise a minimum $1,000 pledge money (ie. $250 each team member). For corporate teams, this is often sponsored by your workplace. Tips for raising pledge money is provided in the Adelaide Trailwalker Information Booklet which will be sent to you after registration.
All monies raised by Adelaide Trailwalker will be directed towards Community Aid Abroad Oxfam Australia’s aid and development work in 22 countries, and emergency response to countries in crisis - such as our work in the former Yugoslavia (Kosavo).
“The power of teamwork! Trailwalker is all about teamwork. It is tough and challenging, it is also inspiring and exhilarating. Trailwalker engages the astonishing capacity of the human spirit to achieve the extraordinary. Every step you take along the trail is a step towards a better life for poor communities the world over” Bryce Courtenay(Trailwalker Patron)
Adelaide Trailwalker promotional materials - brochures, posters, etc. - will be available mid July. Please contact the Adelaide Trailwalker team on (08) 8223 3405 if you would like copies of these materials for your friends, workplace, fitness centre or organisation.
