Burnie Ten Fun Run
Held at Burnie, Tasmania on Sunday 14 October 2001Steve Moneghetti and Susie Power continued on with their great road running form with victories in this weekend's Skilled Burnie Ten road race in Tasmania.
Four-time Olympian Moneghetti fought off the challengers led by the ACT's Darren Wilson, NSW's Kim Gillard and Queensland's Alastair Stevenson to win the men's race in 28 minutes 55 seconds. Wilson was second in 28:59 with Gillard third one second further back.
Goodwill Games 10,000m bronze medallist Power was too strong in the difficult conditions to continue her series of road victories in a time of 32:11. Power won from Tasmania's Anna Thompson (34:50) and Kylie Risk (35:14).
A record number of entries highlighted the 2001 Burnie Ten, which was first held in 1985, and has been recognised in the top tier of a new 'Running Australia' framework alongside the nation's best distance running events.
