Run Summary

The Brisbane River offers plenty of runs but this one is unique in that you actually run on the river. The river walk is a very stable pontoon system along the river downstream from the Story Bridge.

Run Distance

The length really varies depending upon from where you start - the pontoon system from end-to-end, out and back is 3k, if you include the Gardens in your run you will be able to build this up to 10k.

Topography

Being on the river it can't get much flatter - the river walk pontoons are stable with little impact from the wash of passing river craft.

Water Stations

"Water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink!" I don't know the origin of that line but it's prety true here - there are no water stops - you will need to carry your own.

Run Route Details

From anywhere in the CBD head to the river near the Old Customs House at the northern end of Queen St. There is a boardwalk on the rivers edge, on reaching the boardwalk head down stream past the tall apartment buildings and continue on under the Story Bridge the path weaves through some old government buildings and then heads out to the River Walk. The river walk is a long floating cement pontoon that allows you to “run on water”. The Walk heads off to New Farm – this is an out-and-back run so on reaching the end of the Walk simply turn around and head back to the city.
