Canberra Marathon sparks politico bet

Back to Canberra Marathon
A day before the race:
A Canberra press secretary who may be more than a little exposed on Sunday is Kevin Rudd's man Lachlan Harris, described by women of the gallery as "the sexiest press sec around". The political correspondent for The Sunday Age, Jason Koutsoukis, is proposing to run the Canberra marathon. When Harris heard this he snorted derisively and exclaimed, "If you do that I will run naked through Manuka." Koutsoukis issued the challenge - and Harris agreed - that if he completes the marathon in under four hours on Sunday, Harris will be parading through Manuka sans clothes on his way to work at 5am on Monday. Yes, he goes to work that early.
The day after the race:
Admirers will be lining the streets of Canberra's Manuka at 5am today to see Kevin Rudd's press secretary Lachlan Harris flash past in the nude. Harris unwisely bet The Sunday Age's Jason Koutsoukis that the journalist couldn't run yesterday's Canberra marathon in under four hours. Harris promised to run to work naked if he was wrong. He was wrong. Koutsoukis zipped past the finish line in three hours and 48 minutes and, if he keeps his word, Harris will be commuting to Parliament House without his clothes on.
