Features that are broken

The following are listed in priority order:

  1. Our FAQ page got deleted by accident - we have started to rebuild it but its not complete yet.
  2. We had an accident with our form to fill out to request help so in the meantime please just send an email to info@coolrunning.com.au
  3. There is meant to be a seamless login between the forums and the wiki but in practise, for some users, it isn't seamless. This is confusing as on the forums you login with your email address and in the wiki you login with your login name (not even your display name). Many users become confused. Ditto the register link is confusing. This will be resolved by updating the Ipb Wiki software to the Full version. This will enable a single session log in to both the forums and wiki. It will also allow users to create an account on the forum via the wiki. Mick is looking at this.
  4. Various browser issues with css and "skins" makes the site look unprofessional, hard to read etc - its a long list but includes; right scroll "dodgy", colours? blue backgrounds on IE, chunky white background for quicklinks (all browsers), footer bar (should show hits to page, last modified date - usually obscured now), sort out printable page formatting. suggest we finish the upgrade to the latest mediawiki as this will affect skin formatting and possibly even an opportunity to start from scratch with a simpler design (?)

Feature suggestions, in priority order

  1. User Registration - to stop registrations from bots -> enter the code in the box as well as/instead of current validation requirement (I've noticed that recently lots of spammers are going directly to new member status and somehow avoiding the validation stage)
  2. User Registration - to stop registrations from spammers -> implement some sort of control on email addresses? so that member registrations from gawab.com, shopping-wiki.com, moipenis.com, *.ru, *.cn are either blocked or need to be authorised (need a mechanism for managing the list of banned domain names)
  3. User Registration - to stop offensive and nuisance member names -> refuse to accept member/display names with certain character strings (e.g. f*ck) - at present this is controlled for posts in the forums but not for member names
  4. Make an rss feed from news postings for the homepage (we used to have one when implemented via blogger but don't have one now with wikimedia version) I think there is an rss feed plug in with mediawiki but don't know how to install.
  5. Would it be worth reorganising the site with some hierarchical menus as there are a lot of menu items? Possibly, but not sure how to do with mediawiki, if you can see examples on Wikipedia then assume it can be done, else now (?).
  6. Allow embedding of googlemaps, youtubes, forms (eg search) in the wiki There is an forms plug in with mediawiki but don't know how to install.
  7. Additions to Running Guide: include striders 10km, and great north walk sections/ trailwalker.
  8. Complete migrating other static html cr pages
  9. Complete migrations from old wiki to new wiki (Mediawiki) ie migrate melbourne/vic pages from old wiki, finish migrating old "experts" pages, confirm all pages on old wiki moved to new wiki then decommission old wiki (?)

Feature suggestions (from Sook) - need to be reviewed

  1. The wiki menu tabs get hidden behind the quicklink ads for me on a 12" screen - I think there's something wrong with the code for the topmost menus too, should they be hidden? that area doesn't seem to resize as it should
  2. Menu issues: it would be good to have the same look/feel for menus on both wiki and forums parts of the site, at present we don't. Here are some of the points of divergence: Vurt: This issue doesn't happen in Internet Explorer. The Top ads are not being aligned correctly to the right , this only happens in the wiki skin, the forum skin is fine
  • the wiki left menu has bullet points and the ones on the forums/blogs don't - Vurt: need to edit the Forum Skin to make it consistent with the wiki/frontpage
  • the fonts and font colours in the LH menu on wiki vs forum/blogs is different
  • it would be good to have a search box near the top of the page on both wiki and forums (it's off the screen on my 12" laptop)- maybe we can get rid of some of the items in the LH menu?

- Such as 'news' (which is now the same as 'home') - Podcasts (hasn't been updated since 2006) - Running links (could be in 'Running guide') - General (could be in 'Running guide' - and should be renamed 'CR articles' or similar, 'General' is way too vague) - Technical (could be in 'Running guide' or 'Training guide' - also could be renamed 'Technique' but then what are the injury things doing there?)

  1. The whole top menu in the forums is problematic - and the top menu in the wiki pages is very hard to read (gets hidden behind ads)
  • 'Calendar' is in the blog view top menu but not in the forum view top menu
  • 'Chat' is in the forum view top menu but not in the blog view top menu
  • the top menu in the forums/blogs has 'gallery' link that goes to the old gallery not the new smugmug page or even the explanatory page linked from the left-hand menu
  • the 'wiki' link in the top menu doesn't work goes to: http://www.coolrunning.com.au/fatass/hq (and why do we even need a 'wiki' link?)
  • there are two 'search' links on the wiki pages, the one in the box is the least useful but the most visible if you scroll down that far
  1. You can't navigate directly to the blogs from the wiki pages
  2. You can't navigate directly to the home page from the individual blog view pages
