There are not many people recycling running shoes around the world - I found the Boulder Colarado "Shoes for Africa" program (one of their press releases here) and of course the Nike Reuse-a-shoe program but I couldn't find anything about programs in Australia (neither did they respond to my email).
Currently Run The Planet has a good collection of worldwide links to recycling programs for running shoes.
