One blind man named Dave Heeley is preparing to take on the world; running ‘Seven Magnificent Marathons’ – seven marathons, on seven continents, in seven days. ‘Blind Dave’ as he likes to be known, is from the UK and will rely on his sighted guide Malcolm Carr to accompany him around the global marathon circuit. His schedule involves running 183.4 miles in a week – 26.2 miles a day.
Dave’s extraordinary challenge is in an effort to raise awareness of visual impairment around the globe and raise funds for Guide Dogs.
Guide Dogs NSW/ACT are inviting runners to participate in one, or several laps of the marathon circuit with Dave in Centennial Park. There are eight laps in total. Dave will be both motivated and supported by the participation of other runners along the way.
To register either as a participant or spectator for the marathon, email: marathon@guidedogs.com.au or call (02) 9412 9300 and ask for the Marathon Team or visit the website at www.guidedogs.com.au
