Start Details
- Race weekend actually starts at the Race number pickup at the Edge Cinema Katoomba, on Friday, the day before the race from 10am-8pm. We strongly encourage all runners to make the effort to come to pick up your race number, timing chip, bus tickets, Tshirts etc and ask last minute questions all in good time.
- The start is at the Marked Explorers Tree, a couple of km WEST of Katoomba. (If you are coming from Sydney, that means further inland, the other side of Katoomba).
- The start is in a very restricted area and there is NO PARKING close to the start line. There are no runner drop offs either.
- ALL parking is at our Park'n'ride location close to the Skyway This is a new location for 2008 - we are NOT using Catalina Park as per previous years. Parking is FREE! and there will be Rural Fire Staff there all day to keep an eye to make sure vehicles are safe (although no responsibility taken if there are any issues).

- There are signposts and marshalls to help direct traffic to the Skyway if you are driving from Sydney.
- Please use the toilets at the Park'n'ride, as they are restricted at the Start.
- All runners and family/friends should take the shuttle buses provided from the Park'n'ride to the start. The buses are FREE! to ALL.
- Parking is open from 05:30am, Shuttle buses start at 06:00am and finish approx 8am. The race starts in waves from 8am till 8:35am.
- If you did not pick up your number on Friday from The Edge Cinema, you can pick up your number at the registration desk at the Park'n'ride - NOT THE START - REPEAT - NO RACE NUMBERS AT THE START. Pin the number to the FRONT of your running clothes. Registration opens at 05:30am.
- Bags can be left at the Park'n'ride (preffered) or the start for transportation to the finish.
- For people staying in Katoomba, with no car, but who had picked up your race number and chip at The Edge, then you can walk on the newly constructed pathway to the start (RTA info from 2005). Please follow the footpath - on sections along the Great Western Highway you are separated from the road by a fence - under no circumstances should you try to walk next to traffic on this busy (and dark) road.
- The traditional Damper and Tea breakfast will be served at the start from approx 6:15am. This is FREE! Along with water and drinks.
- There are some toilets at the start - please use them - not the bushes. This is private land and we must respect this.
- Wave 1 runners - numbers from 001 to 100 start at 8am, wave 2 at 8:05am, wave 3 at 8:20am and wave 4 at 8:35am. The early wave starts at 7:00am. Do not start in the wrong wave.
- After the last wave has started, those family/friends that have bus tickets to Jenolan Caves - wait for further instructions. The spectator bus will leave approx 9am. For 2008 The Jenolan Caves Reserves Trust will give a free caves pass to the Nettle Cave for all people on the spectator bus - this is a 1hr self-guided tour (ie can start at any time) that is suitable for children. Normal cost $17.
- Those spectators that want to go back to the Park'n'ride to pick up their cars - wait for further instructions. The shuttle bus will also leave approx 9am. You do not need to pay for this.
- For people driving to Jenolan Caves for the finish, you need to be prepared for very long delays driving and parking and you are encouraged to take the spectator bus, car pool and/or drive to Jenolan via the Duckmaloi Rd to by pass the delays heading into the Jenolan Valley (remember that car parking is on the Oberon side of the valley and travelling via the Duckmalloi Rd by passes the botteneck).
