2002 Marathon & 10km Results
15 September 2002Tanzanian athletes have filled the first three places in the Sydney Marathon, with Heather Turland winning the women's section.
Stephen Bwire, who finished second in the recent City to Surf, won a sprint finish with compatriot Patrick Nyangelo to cross the line five seconds ahead in two hours 17 minutes and 30 seconds.
Victorian Jeremy Horne was the first Australian home in fourth place, while 1998 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Turland won the women's race in two hours 51 minutes five seconds.
She beat two other Australian runners home.
Current Commonwealth Games marathon gold medallist Kerryn Mccann won the 10 kilometre bridge run with New Zealand's Damon Harris taking out the men's event.
