The race will take place on a 400 metre grass, tree lined track at Memorial Square in the Town's centre. World record holder Yiannis Kouros recognised as the greatest ultramarathon runner in history will contest the event for the second time. Among athletes from Canada, Italy, Hungary and New Zealand, last year's winner from Czech Republic, Jaroslav Kocourek, hopes to break the 1000 kilometre mark and challenge Kouros's world record - 1023km performed at Colac in 1984. Kocourek won the race in 1998 when he ran a strong 901kms. Last year he surprised everyone with a seemingly relaxed 925km in six days. "This year Yiannis must run at his very best to beat me," he said. This year's race will be the forth appearance for both female runners. Victorian, Dawn Parris, ran her best performance in 1997 with 676kms. Hungarian, Elvira Janosi achieved a personal best in 1998 with 536kms. The event is supported by the Colac / Otway Shire.
