Australian 100km Team announced8th June 2002
The Executive Committee of the Australian Ultra Runners Association (AURA) have great pleasure in announcing the 100km team for the IAU World 100km Cup on the 21st June in Torhout, Belgium.
The team consists of Tim Sloan (Tas), Adam Barron (Qld) and Warren Holst(Vic) and represents a fine mix of experience with age and youth.
Tim Sloan has the Australian 100km Record with a fine 6:29:26 that was set back in 1995 with a fine run in Richmond, Tasmania. He is still running strongly including a fine win earlier this year agianst Yiannis Kouros in the 50km Mansfield to Mt Buller.
Adam Barron is making his second trip as part of the Australian 100km team. He has a win in the Aust 100km Championship and two placings at Glasshouse 50km trail to his name. He is looking forward to improving his time from last year's trip. Adam is only 27 and has many years left in the sport.
Warren Holst is the third member of the team. He is the "Baby" of the team but is a former A grade marathoner with a 2: 24 to his name and a win in the now defunct Otway Classic to his credit. Warren ran a 7h 50 min for 100k in a 12 hour race at Coburg this year and is confidant of doing a 7h15m time for his first race overseas!
Overall it is a team very capable of making the Top 10 team's list at this year's Event.
The AURA Exec would also like to thank Athletics Australia for their support and help in getting the Team to Europe. This includes team uniforms of brand new Australian team tracksuits.
