Mr Cornelius has had more than 25 years in top level sports administration. Nigel Aylott was re-elected as Vice President, Ian Clarke as Secretary and Graham Ives as treasurer. The sport of ultramarathing (longer than standard marathon of 42 kms) is enjoying a resurgence in many countries. By example, the Comrades race of 90 kms in South Africa regularly attracts more than 12,000 runners. Mr Cornelius said "There is no reason why we cannot attract similar interest in long distance races here in Australia. Also, I would like to see us host the world 100 kms championships in coming years." The new committee is determined to make every effort to further develop and promote the sport of ultramarathoning in Australia. A Code of Conduct was also proposed and implemented on the night. This will be available shortly at www.ultraoz.com. This new Code of Conduct will enable all parties involved in ultras to take part in a spirit of fairplay, goodwill and sportsmanship. It was also verbally agreed on the night that a Bryan Smith Memorial Medal will be implemented. This will be awarded annually to thank those persons that have furthered the cause of Ultra Running in Australia. The AURA Exec will decide in the next two months how this Award will be implemented.
