55th Stage - Traralgon – Perry Bridge - 75.2 km

The TransAustralia Foot Race is making the exhausted competitors pay a bigger price with each day of the competition. Paul Every, who came last in today's stage again, got hit the worst. His digestion problems were so severe that his body couldn't absorb any food, consequently, after finishing with the stage, he was taken straight to hospital, where he was treated with an infusion. He should be ready by tomorrow mornig. The rest of the runners' problems aren't as serious They mostly suffer from muscle inflammation, which is the result of the constant pace of their running.

The only racer still in top form is Anatoliy Kruglikov, who is running like the wind. Today he showed once again who the boss is and outclassed his opponents. He left Andrei Derxen half an hour and Dusan Mravlje almost an hour behind. Sakurai's overall third place is being threatened more and more by Dusan Mravlje, who managed to beat the Japanese by 31 minutes and decreased his advantage to five hours and 22 minutes. Kaname's endurance will be tested in the coming days, when the runners will head towards the hills. Kaname's "saviour" is Karen, who "puts him together" after each stage. The results of her work are showing in Kaname's running. He managed to decrease his deficit to Mravlje by 12 minutes in the last 20 kilometers of stage 55. Mick Francis and Mihaly Molnar were keeping each other in sight once again, and kept overtaking each other at the food and drink stands. Mick got the better of the Hungarian and beat him by 41 minutes, but his chances of overtaking Molar's overall fifth place are very slim. Bobby Brown has been running consistantly throughout the second half of the competition and keeps finishing in the top ten.

Latvian Jermolajevs is a big mystery to everyone, since his daily form varies a lot. Yesterday he finished last, 45 minutes behind the German trio, but today he came in 9th position, beating the Germans by more than an hour. The variation of his daily form is preventing him from reaching higher overall places. There's no doubt that tomorrow will be a big day for the 500 residents of Bruthen, which will be the final destination of stage 56. The competition will be, in the closing days, closely followed by the Austalian national TV-ABC.
