Riley said the funding has already been arranged with his uncle, Pat Riley, of Litte Rock, Arkansas. Originally, the two had discussed a more modest budget of $20,000 US. But Rilley says his uncle now sees a much greater potential in the event and has decided to make a major increase in the amount of money he is willing to commit to the project. Initially, Riley said he planned to hold the race in the year 2000 but he changed it to 2001 because Australia will be celebrating its centennial that year and he hopes the race will become one of the official events recognized by centennial Australian celebration organizers. Riley said he expects great interst from Australian athletes as a result of Farmer's agreement to become the race director.
