2003 IAU 100km Selection Criteria

The Australian Ultrarunners Association (AURA) committee, shall be responsible for nominating National Teams (men's and women's) to Athletics Australia to participate in the International Association of Ultrarunners World 100K Challenge (held under the patronage of the International Amateur Athletics Federation). The final team selection may be also be subject to Athletics Australia General Selection Criteria.
The AURA Committee will observe the following guidelines as closely as possible in choosing and assisting teams:
Selection
- All team members must be eligible under IAAF rules to represent Australia in IAAF-approved events.
- All team members must be a registered with Athletics Australia through one of its Member Associations
- Up to six males and six females will be nominated in accordance with the IAU's policy of allowing teams to have up to six members each.
- Up to six alternate males and six alternate females may also be nominated to fill any team vacancies that occur.
- Nominees and alternates should be selected in order of merit, as determined by AURA, taking all factors into account.
- Vacancies will be offered to alternates in order of their listing.
- In the event that vacancies on either team exist after alternates have been exhausted AURA may nominate other suitable athletes based on merit.
- In determining merit, AURA will assess the activities of runners prior to the World Challenge to determine their readiness and their capability as athletes to compete.
- Preference will be given to athletes who have demonstrated their ability to meet the years qualification standard in 100km events. Other performances may be taken into consideration on the basis of these demonstrating an ability to meet the 100km qualification standard .
- AURA will announce team nominees and alternates not less than three months prior to the date of the World Challenge.
- The top two men and the top two women in any AURA approved Australian 100K championship shall be guaranteed nominations to the next IAU 100K World Challenge as long as their finishing times are within the AURA qualification standard (section 2.1 and 2.2).
Qualification Standards
For the 2003 World Challenge to be held Tainan County, Taiwan on November 16th 2003 qualification standards are as follows:
Men
- 100km – 8 hours or below
Women
- 100km – 9.5 hours or below
Assistance
AURA will offer what support it reasonably can, given its limited resources and volunteer nature, to help team members prepare for, and attend, the IAU 100K World Challenge.
Where travel, accommodation or other assistance is offered by World Challenge organizers, or others, to one or more individual team members, AURA will recommend this is distributed evenly to all team members.
Other sums of money, or support, received for the general assistance of the teams will be used first to ensure that team members have uniforms and to cover any necessary administrative costs. Any balance will be divided equally among team members attending the World Challenge, up to but not exceeding legitimate travel and accommodation expenses. Any balance remaining after the above commitments have been met shall be kept in safekeeping with the AURA-Treasurer for use by teams at future IAU 100K World Challenge races.
