Impact of fires in the Alpine Park on Bogong race
From AURA
Back to Bogong to Hotham
No doubt many of you will be wondering what the fires burning in the Alpine National Park will mean for the Bogong to Hotham run.
With a month to go, we’re working on the assumption that the current emergency will be dealt with and the run will go ahead on 7 January. However, that may not be the case and we thought it best to send an early message alerting everyone to the possibility that the event may have to be cancelled or postponed.
You can see the area that is currently affected by clicking on Detailed closure map attached on the Parks website http://www.parkweb.vic.gov.au/1park_display.cfm?park=41. At the present time, it looks as if the track on which we will run is unaffected, with the possible exception of the final climb to Mt Hotham which is on the closed side of the Great Alpine Road.
We’re mindful of the fact that some of you have already committed to travel arrangements, and others will be doing so soon. Unfortunately, we’re unable to call it right now, and will provide more information as the situation becomes clearer.
