Course description
In the 2008 Wagga Wagga Trail Marathon, runners enjoyed the diversity of river tracks with bush scenery, sleepy lagoons, hill top views, and the lake. In 2009 the marathon and marathon relay will use the same course, around the perimeter of Wagga, based upon the Wirradjuri walking track.
From Wagga Beach, it follows the Murrumbidgee River and Flowerdale Lagoon to Pomingalarna Reserve, then through the Silvalite Reserve to the ridgeline of Willans Hill and Lake Albert before returning to the river and Wagga Beach. The route is largely walking tracks and trails, with hill country in the 10 - 32 km part of the route. All routes are well marked on the day and require no local knowledge.
The Relay is distinctive in that a team of up to four runners can complete the marathon route using four 10-12 km stages in relay fashion. This allows runners to choose the distance they run (close to 10, 20 or 30 km).
The 10 km and 3 km events follow the first part of the marathon course, along the river, to turn around points and then back, along the same route, to Wagga Beach. The 10 km Fun Run will start at the beach after the marathon and relay runners are away and will run along the river track and back.. The 3 km Fun Walk/Run is along the river track to the first stile and back.| For further information contact waggawaggamarathon@bigpond.com |
